Laser Bed Therapy Training
FDA-Approved Cold Laser / Photobiomodulation
💡 Welcome to Laser Bed Training
The Laser Bed is one of our most powerful and well-researched therapies. It's FDA-approved, backed by over 2,000 published studies, and provides noticeable results often within just one or two sessions!
✨ What is Laser Bed Therapy?
Also called Photobiomodulation (PBM) or Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), this treatment uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate healing at the cellular level. It's called "cold laser" because it doesn't heat or damage tissue – it simply energizes cells to heal faster.
The first cold laser was FDA-cleared in 2002. Since then, over 2,000 published studies have reported zero negative side effects. This is one of the safest and most effective therapies we offer!
The Benefits
Pain Relief
Stimulates endorphins, blocks pain signals
Reduced Inflammation
Decreases swelling up to 75%
Faster Healing
Accelerates tissue repair
Better Circulation
More oxygen & nutrients to tissues
Muscle Relaxation
Releases tension & spasms
Immune Support
Enhances immune cell activity
Better Sleep
Improved sleep quality

Focus & cognitive support
Conditions That Respond Well
Pain conditions (arthritis, back/neck pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, carpal tunnel, headaches), wound healing, neuropathy, post-surgical recovery, and general wellness support.
🎗️ Oncology Supportive Care
Photobiomodulation is actively used at major cancer centers (including Memorial Sloan Kettering) for supportive care – helping with treatment side effects like oral mucositis, radiation fibrosis, and neuropathy. We welcome cancer patients for this therapy!
⚡ How It Works
The Science Made Simple
Your cells contain tiny powerhouses called mitochondria that produce energy (ATP) for your body to function. When you're injured, in pain, or healing, your cells need extra energy.
🌱 Think of It Like Photosynthesis
Just like plants absorb sunlight to create energy, your cells can absorb specific wavelengths of light to produce more energy for healing. The laser light penetrates through skin and is absorbed directly by your cells!
What the Light Does
Light activates enzymes in mitochondria (especially cytochrome c oxidase), dramatically increasing cellular energy production.
Triggers nitric oxide release, which dilates blood vessels and brings more oxygen and nutrients to tissues.
Stimulates endorphin production and blocks pain signal transmission.
Deactivates inflammatory enzymes and chemicals that cause swelling and discomfort.
The Wavelengths
| Light Type | Wavelength | What It Reaches |
|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Red Light | ~635 nm | Skin, superficial muscles, surface tissues |
| 🟤 Near-Infrared | ~805 nm | Deeper muscles, joints, bones |
The laser bed uses therapeutic red and near-infrared light – no UV light. It won't tan or damage your skin. It's completely different technology.
🔧 Running Sessions
Session Setup
- Raise bed to comfortable height for patient entry
- Explain the process and what they'll experience
- Step out so patient can undress (unless they need assistance)
- Once ready, confirm: timer set to 15 min, call button in reach, protective glasses ON
- Lower bed/canopy to comfortable position
- Ask if they have questions or concerns
- Start the bed
- Start the 15-minute timer
- Start your 30-minute timer and step out
- Let patient know you're outside and they can remove their sheet
Patients must wear protective glasses before the lights turn on. The light is bright and eye protection is mandatory.
Cleaning Between Patients
- Remove all sheets and towels → laundry basket
- Remove/replace pillow cases
- Put on clean sheets and towels
- Sanitize glasses with Seventh Generation wipes
- Check chart notes for next patient setup
What Patients Experience
During the Session
- Bright red light (that's why glasses are needed!)
- Gentle warmth – comfortable, not hot
- Very relaxing – many patients find it peaceful
- No pain whatsoever
No downtime! Patients can return to normal activities immediately. Encourage them to stay hydrated. Many notice improvement within 1-2 sessions, though some conditions benefit from a full protocol.
💬 Patient Communication
Your Patient Explanation
"The laser bed uses red and near-infrared light to give your cells an energy boost. Think of it like photosynthesis for your body – the light helps your cells produce more energy so they can heal faster. You'll lie down for about 15 minutes while the light reaches your tissues. It's completely painless, most people find it very relaxing, and you can go right back to normal activities afterward!"
Common Questions
Precautions
- Photosensitizing medications?
- Current sunburn?
- Pregnancy? (avoid over abdomen)
Always: Protective eyewear on before lights activate!
Rare Side Effects
Side effects are rare and minor: occasional mild warmth, slight temporary skin irritation, or rarely a brief increase in symptoms before improvement. These resolve quickly on their own.
